Location : Khecheopalri Lake is located at a distance of 24 km from Pemayangtse in Sikkim, India. Pemayangtse is situated in West Sikkim at Gyalshing, about 140 km from Gangtok, capital city of Sikkim.

Khecheopalri Lake in Sikkim is also known as the wishing lake. This unusually tranquil Khecheopalri Lake Sikkim is surrounded by blooming forest and is considered as one of the sacred lakes of Sikkim both by the Buddhist and the Hindus. Hence, no water sport or other activities besides prayers are allowed around the lake. It is believed that birds do not permit even a single leaf to float on the Khecheopalri Lake surface. Journey to Khecheopalri Lake in Sikkim
Khecheopalri Lake in Sikkim is easily approachable from Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. You can easily reach Gangtok via Siliguri or Jalpaiguri, both in West Bengal, India. Pemayangtse, which about 24 km away from the lake is situated in West Sikkim at Gyalshing, about 140 km from Gangtok, capital city of Sikkim.

Airport : Nearest airport is Bagdogra in West Bengal( 124 kms.), from where scheduled flights operates to and fro from Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati. The Bagdogra airport is connected to Gangtok by a helicopter service operating between Gangtok - Bagdogra - Gangtok.

Railhead : Two nearest railway station are at Siliguri (114 km) and New Jalpaiguri (125 km) stabilizing link to Calcutta, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India.

Road Transport : Gangtok is connected with all weather mettaled road with Siliguri, Kalimpong, Gangtok etc. Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim is connected by all weather road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the District headquarters within Sikkim. There is a motorable road from Pemayangtse right up to the lake area.

Private Taxis, Jeeps and Landrovers ply regularly on the Gangtok- Siliguri Highway and are available for transfer of passengers between Gangtok and Siliguri/ New Jalpaiguri Junction/ Bagdogra, and also for local sightseeing at fixed rates and may be reserved through Tourist Bureau, Govt. of West Bengal, Gangtok.

NOTE : Foreigners need a permit to enter Sikkim (available at Siliguri).

Staying near Khecheopalri Lake (Sikkim) Trekker's hut has been provided by the Tourist Department. There is also a pilgrim's hut, managed by the Tourism Department, which is meant to provide accommodations to the people who come on pilgrimage tours.

Namgyal Research Institute of Tibetology (Gangtok)
Established in 1958 and built in traditional style, this unique institute promotes research into Mahayana Buddhist and the language and traditions of Tibet. It has one of the world's largest collection of books and rare manuscripts on Mahayana Buddhism, many religious works of art and a collection of beautiful, finely embroidered silk thangkas. It also has relics of the monks from the time of Ashoka, examples of Lepcha script, masks, and ceremonial and sacred objects, such as the kapali, a bowl made from a humane skull, and a varku, a flute made from a thigh bone. The institute also sells a number of religious books on Tibetan Buddhism. Today it is a renowned, world wide centre for study of Buddhist Philosophy and religion.
